William “Bill” J. Burke, 87, A proud US Navy Veteran serving from 1952 - 1954, late of Shorewood, formerly a resident of Thornton for 60 years. He will be sorely missed by his beloved wife of 61 years, Marilyn (nee DeVries); Cherished daughter, Marylou (Kurt) Post; Devoted grandchildren, Tyler and Marissa Post; Loving brother of Thomas (Barbara) Burke, and Robert (Victoria) Burke; Fond brother in law of Joyce DeVries. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Mary Alice Burke (nee Hickey); brothers, James (Delores) Burke, and Kenneth Burke, and sisters, Sr. Maria – Mary Theresa Burke, and Sheila (Late Dennis) Fudge. Bill was a long time member of the Pinta-Neri Knights of Columbus Council #1846 where he served in every office including Grand Knight, the Samuel Cardinal Stritch Assembly #205 4th Degree Knight where he again served in every office including Faithful Navigator and past District Deputy. He also was a member of the South Holland V.F.W. Post #9964 serving up to Past Post Commander and he volunteered at the Emergency Service and Disaster Agency (ESDA) of Thornton. Bill retired from Ford Motor Company where he worked his entire career. Bill always offered a helping hand to those who needed one. He lived by the creed "Thy Will be Done". Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial Gathering at Holy Family Church, 600 Brook Forest Ave. (Rt. 59), in Shorewood on Tuesday, March 28th from 10:00 AM until time of Mass at 11:00 AM. Rev. Thomas Dunn will officiate. Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd. in Elwood on Tuesday at 2:00 PM. Family and friends are asked to meet at cemetery no later than 1:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Joliet Hospice or your favorite charity would be appreciated.
