Garrit R. Felkamp

March 3, 1956 — November 19, 2024

New Lenox, IL

Garrit R. Felkamp, affectionately known as Gary, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, in New Lenox, Illinois, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on March 3, 1956, in Chicago, he brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.

Gary dedicated 37 years of his life as a machinist on the production line at International Paper in Summit, Illinois, where his strong work ethic and commitment were evident. After years of hard work, he embraced retirement, cherishing the newfound time to spend with his family and pursue his passions. Later, he relocated to Mount Dora, Florida just north of Orlando.

As a fun and loving father, Gary created countless memories with his daughters, Jennifer Felkamp (Kyron Birk) and Laurin (Justin Stauffenberg), and his son, Josh. His laughter and warmth will forever be imprinted in their hearts. A devoted grandfather, he found immense joy in his grandchildren: Brandon, Trenton, Maeline, Kavon, Mikylah, Kyron Jr., Mariyah, and Aidan Felkamp, as well as Jave and Bryce Stauffenberg. Each moment spent with them was a treasure that filled his life with purpose. He was also a great-grandfather, doting on little Brandon and creating a legacy of love that will transcend generations.

In addition to his immediate family, Gary shared a close bond with his brothers, Tim and Sam (Carolyn) Felkamp, who valued the love and laughter they shared throughout their lives. Though he is preceded in death by his brother Ben and his parents, Gerrit and Jeanette, Gary's spirit and kindness live on through his cherished family and friends.

A man who loved fishing, Gary often found peace and fulfillment in nature, sharing these moments with those he loved most. His genuine spirit and the happiness he brought into the lives of others will be remembered fondly by everyone whose life he touched.

As Gary's family navigates this profound loss, they find comfort in the memories of the times spent together, and the love that continues to surround them. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and togetherness that will forever illuminate the hearts of all who knew him.
