Irvin John “Bud” Hansen, a man of unwavering integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, surrounded by his three devoted daughters and cherished family.
Bud lived a life filled with faithful hope and generosity, bringing joy to all through his love of music, learning, and the company of family and friends.
Born to Irvin John and Rose Francis (Kolar), Bud often reminisced about his youthful days swimming, fishing, and exploring in Palmer Park, South Chicago. As a teenager, he enjoyed working on cars with the Ram Rods, cruising the avenue with friends, and dancing at KP Hall. In 1960, he graduated from Christian Fenger High School and enlisted in the Army National Guard. Bud had many passions in life. His hobbies included solving crossword puzzles in ink, creating useful life hacks, tinkering with cars, reading, writing, and photography. His work life was varied and rich, encompassing roles such as auto mechanic, lab technician, factory foreman, car salesman, and Home Depot Specialist —a true “Jack of all trades”.
In June 1963, he married the love of his life, Joyce, at the Church of the Holy Rosary in Chicago. Their relationship was built on mutual respect and admiration, creating a warm home in Glenwood where they raised their four children. Together, they cultivated a loving environment where family and friends felt welcomed. There was always good food, games, storytelling, music, and meaningful conversations.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved Joyce “Joy” Marie (nee Cameo) (2021), and his firstborn, John I. Hansen (2012). He is survived by his sisters, Geraldine Larsen and Georgene Oswald; his three loving daughters and sons-in-law: Marianne Hansen-Rossi (Daniel) Rossi, Michelle (Sebastian) Rossi, Margaret “Peggy” (Mark) Manta and daughter-in-law, Christine (nee Melvin) Hansen; ten grandchildren; Madlyn (Jack) Troike, Johnny Hansen, Thomas (Nadine) Hansen, Daniel (Lauren) Hansen, Melanie Hansen, Natalie Rossi, Dominic (Montannah) Rossi, Timothy (Keelee) Usher, Leo Manta and Maria Manta; six great-grandchildren; with three more on their way, numerous cousins, and many nieces, and nephews.
A visitation will be held at 9:00 AM, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. George Church, 6707 175th St, Tinley Park, on Saturday, October 18, 2025. A private interment for the immediate family will take place following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. George Church's memorial fund are welcome.
