James J. Speicer, a cherished member of the community and beloved family man, passed away on August 29, 2025, in Joliet, Illinois, at the age of 87. Born on December 30, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, James led a life filled with devotion, hard work, and cherished memories.
He received his education at Saint Columbanus and later at Saint Sabina Catholic School in Chicago, followed by Leo Catholic High School. His pursuit of knowledge continued at Saint Joseph Seminary in Bordertown, New Jersey, where he laid the foundation for his lifelong values.
James will be fondly remembered for his impressive career, which included significant roles at AT&T Communication, C and EI Railroad, and the American Dental Association (ADA), where he served as Assistant Director of Data Processing. His professional life reflected his commitment to excellence and dedication to his work.
A proud veteran, James served in the Army National Guard, reflecting his strong sense of duty and service to his country. His faith was an integral part of his life, as he was a devoted parishioner of both Saint Iraneus and Saint Mary Parishes in Park Forest, Illinois.
James’s warm personality and zest for life were evident in everything he did. He loved spending time with his family and created lasting memories through picnics and trips to Door County, Wisconsin. His hobbies brought him joy, and he took pleasure in music, softball, bowling, and playing cards.
He is survived by his loving children: Patti of Sister Bay, WI; Rich of Sturgeon Bay, WI; Jeff (Debbie) of New Lenox, IL; Steve (Amanda) of Bolingbrook, IL; and Lynn (Kirby) of Ellison Bay, WI. James' legacy continues through his grandchildren: Meghan, Jeff "JJ" (fiancée Ashley), Dillon, Eric (fiancée Tori), Lauren, Vanessa, Camille, Oliva, and Landon, as well as his great-grandchildren: Vito Jr., Dominic, T.J., Bryleigh, and Emilyn. He is also survived by his brother, John "Jack" (Rita) of Chicago Heights, IL.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Peter Speiser, who had a profound impact on his life and values.
As we remember James J. Speicer, we celebrate a man who led a good life and left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His love for family, friends, and community will resonate in the hearts of many for years to come.
