Leona E. Gross

Leona E. Gross, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep December 11, 2023, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. She was born on May 9, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Adolph J. and Bessie (Vohanka) Wokasch.

Leona married her late husband Eric C. Gross, in 1956.

She leaves behind her children, Catherine (the late Robert) Smith, Laurie (Michael) Scott, Jeanne (Thomas) Walker, Carl (Dee) Gross, Stephen (Sharon) Gross, Gary (Apple) Gross, Karen (Daniel) Miller, and Patricia (Bryon) Stanke.

Leona was a grandmother of 11; dearest great-grandmother of 9; fond sister-in-law of   Barbara Gross and brother-in-law Richard Barrett, Aunt of many nieces and nephews.  

Leona was preceeded in death by her parents, Adolph (Bessie) Wokasch; in-laws Joseph (Paula) Gross; brother-in-law Dr. Joseph (Anita) Gross: nephew David Gross; son-in-law Robert Smith; husband Eric Gross; sister-in-law Terri Barrett;  brother-in-law Richard Gross; grandsons Jordan Miller and Matthew Moreland.

Leona, "Lee" graduated from Hirsch HS as Salutorian, continuing to regularly meet with her HS "Girls' Club" of friends for over 50 years.  She worked as a typist at Charles Schribner's Sons Publishing before meeting and marrying her husband of 63 years. Raising her 8 children was her talent and greatest joy in life. Leona's personality was  calm, warm, fun and gentle. She had a disarmingly quick wit. Our sincere gratitude goes to all the Nuns and staff who cared for Leona in her final days at St. Camillus.
