LookRoger J. Haaksma, born on June 3, 1949, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, passed away on May 9, 2026, in Frankfort, Illinois. His life was marked by dedication, service, and a deep love for both his profession and his family.
Roger devoted over 40 years to the medical field as a respiratory therapist, a career through which he touched countless lives before retiring. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Roger was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving during the Vietnam War and stationed in Panama.
Those who knew Roger will remember him for his distinct, sarcastic wit. He embraced a dark sense of humor, skillfully using it to navigate the complexities of life. His blunt, clever, and unforgettable perspective enlivened every conversation and left a lasting impression on all who encountered him.
Outside of his professional and military life, Roger found true joy in his hobbies and passions. A gifted photographer and lover of the outdoors, he instilled in his children a profound appreciation for nature that continues to resonate through the generations. Travel became his greatest passion later in life, embodying his lifelong curiosity and zest for exploring the world.
Roger was the devoted companion and boyfriend of Dianne Dekker and her two children: Jeff and his wife Crystal and their son George and Dianne's daughter DeeDee. He is also survived by his former wife, Patricia Haaksma, and his loving children: David Haaksma and his wife Annalisa; Joellyn Knapp and her husband Kevin; Danielle Kinkelaar and her husband Tyler; Ryan Haaksma and his wife Layne; and Eric Haaksma and his husband Chase Aubin. He took immense pride in being a cherished grandfather to John and Anderson; Kaden, Cameron, and Kallista; Justine and Logan; and Maeve, Michael, Mark, and Marie.
He was a dear brother to John Haaksma and his wife Linda, and Doreen Haaksma, and a proud uncle to Kimberly and Justin.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary B. Haaksma; his sister, Carol Rohan, and her husband, Bernie Rohan; as well as his former wife, Arlene Haaksma.
Roger J. Haaksma’s memory will endure through the countless lives he touched and the family he cherished deeply. With his sharp wit, boundless humor, and loving spirit, he leaves behind a legacy that will be treasured and remembered with great respect and affection.
