William (Bill) David Crawford, 96, a man of many talents and warm relationships, peacefully passed away on March 2, 2024. He was the cherished son of Beatrice Daisy Carpenter and Don Artman Crawford. Bill shared 72 beautiful years with his beloved wife, M. Pauline (Polly) Slagle, whom he met on a blind date in 1951.

As a devoted father, Bill leaves behind his children Bill (Donna) Crawford and Kimberly Bloechl. He was an adored grandfather to Grant (Jamie) Bloechl, Carrie (James) Morley, Sam (Meg) Bloechl and Lee Anne (Sorin) Marinca, beloved great-grandfather to Lucy, Ruth, Delilah and loving brother to Judy(Tex) Frank.

Bill now joins his siblings, Don (Barbara) Crawford and William (Jackie) Shafer. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Bill's life was filled with remarkable experiences. Notably recognized as the world's youngest balloonist during his youth - he rightfully earned the distinction of  "Balloon Boy". Additionally he once secured Joe DiMaggio’s autograph on the historic night when the baseball legend's 56-game hitting streak came to an end.

His athletic prowess shone during his high school years and continued through college at Baldwin Wallace , where he excelled in sports leading to a coveted spot within the Cleveland Indians organization. Serving in the military further showcased Bill's talent on the field as he proudly represented the Air Force baseball teams stationed in Japan.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Bill enjoyed a successful career in the college textbook industry with Richard D. Irwin Inc., starting from sales and culminating as President of Learning Systems.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Bill held good friendships as one of life's greatest treasures. An avid lover of water and fishing, countless memories were made aboard the family houseboat appropriately named the "Crows Nest." In their retirement years, Bill and Polly relocated to Bradenton, Florida.

In his final chapter spent back in Illinois, Bill found comfort in his family.
At this time, no formal services are planned.

Bill Crawford's legacy is not just in his achievements but also in the connections he fostered throughout his journey - leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
